The happy family planning talk1 finishes, and it’s the conversation in bed with Okaa-sama time at the end of the day.
Since Mari-okaa-sama came back, I was finally liberated from Yuzuki-nee-sama.
“Tsukuyomi. I, wanted to marry you”
“Okaa-sama. What a problematic statement that is”
“I mean, I do not know any man as marvellous as you. Why do you have to be my son?”
“That is, because Okaa-sama got married at the age of 15. Even I would end up coming off as good since you came here while still knowing pretty much nothing about the men in the world, you know”

“You would have huh. Roughly how many boys were there in the school?”

I hold Okaa-san’s breasts up from below with my hands while saying that.

“Aah, as I thought, there isn’t huh. The breasts have quite a bit of weight. That weight places a burden on the shoulders, and it causes the shoulders to grow stiff as well. It alleviates that”
“I can understand if it’s that. My breasts were really heavy when I was breastfeeding Tsukuyomi, and my shoulders grew stiff after all”
“Then, shall we make brassieres in this world?”
“You can make them?”
“Yeah. The clothes and whatnot of a Princess are those that have been sewn rather meticulously, no?”

“If they can make such garments, I think they can make brassieres”

“What is ‘breast cancer’?”
“It refers to the malignant tumour that emerges from the milk ducts inside a woman’s breasts or, rarely, the tissue known as the lobes. If one gets this and the cancer cells end up growing big, the only way to survive is to amputate the breast”
“Eh? Amputate the breast?”
“Eeh, because there was no Healing ability in my previous life’s world. But even with the Healing ability of this world, whether or not it can treat that cancer, that I still do not know though”
“What a terrifying disease huh”
“Eeh, which is why it is important to periodically examine it just in case in the day-to-day. It is called ‘palpation’, and you touch them directly to check whether there are any 「lumps」. Let’s slightly give it a try. Please remove your clothes”
“Eh? Really?”
“Yes. I am a doctor after all. In my previous life, it was something I did every day”
Okaa-san hesitantly removes her clothes. Since my hands are still small, I perform palpation on her breasts individually with both hands.
“Yo-, you touched women’s breasts like this every day?”
“Eeh, that is right. But it is not touching; it is an examination called palpation. You must not look at it with unsavoury eyes”
“Yes. Sorry”
I performed palpation on both breasts, but I didn’t find any issues. I go a step further and see through them as well, and after checking the condition of the milk ducts and mammary glands, there is no problem.
“Okay. There was no problem. Let’s periodically do examinations from here on out as well”
“Yes. Please”
“Ahー! I forgot something important!”
“Eh? What is it?”
“I talked about the mechanism of menstruation, but I did not check on the menstrual products. Women bleed when they have menstruation, right. How have you been keeping in that menstrual blood inside the underwear?”
There were sanitary napkins and tampons and such on Earth, but that, too, came out for the first time about 40 years ago after all. There’s no way they exist in this world.
But that’s something that exists because there’s superabsorbent polymer. You can’t make superabsorbent polymer in this world. Even if you copy the shape, it’s meaningless if it doesn’t have the function of absorbing liquid and keeping it from leaking.
“When menstruation comes, we lay a cotton-wrapped-in-cloth-thing and absorb it. But it ends up staining right away when there is a lot, so it is troubling though”
“Aah, as I thought, it is going to be such an approach huh. If you stay as is without changing it frequently, there are also instances where it becomes a different disease. With that knowledge in mind, women have to try to maintain cleanliness during the menstruation period, you know”
“That’s how it is huh”
“Even in my previous life’s world, menstrual products finally started circulating about 30 years ago. But that is impossible to make in this world. I can probably write the importance of maintaining cleanliness around the female genitalia during menstruation in the book and have them understand it as knowledge, but in reality, cotton and cloth alone are not enough”
“It is something so difficult huh”
“Yeah. There is the matter with the brassieres as well, so I want to discuss with a tailor once”
“In that case, underneath this Moon Palace, there is Olivia-nee-sama’s homeland, Campanula Kingdom, so if you talk to Olivia-nee-sama about it tomorrow, I think she can call a clothing store personnel to the Moon Palace”

“Yes. It is called a ‘brassiere’. It is an undergarment that supports the breasts”
“Supports the breasts. Is it?”
“Yes. Yeah. Pardon me, but since Olivia-kaa-sama’s breasts are huge, I think you feel the heaviness of your breasts in your day-to-day; how is it”
“E-, eeh. Yeah. It was especially awful during breastfeeding. In addition to the breasts swelling up, they are heavy, and my shoulders become painful”
“Yes. Precisely. I think you will know the heaviness if you could try supporting your own breasts from below with your hands. The shoulders are pulled, and the muscles tense up from supporting that, and at its worst, it will cause inflammation. You call these ‘stiff shoulders’. The brassiere is something that supports the breasts and alleviates the stiffness of the shoulders, and it is something that feels like this if I am to illustrate it”
I drew the illustration of a woman’s front and side view on a large piece of paper, added on the illustration of a brassiere, and had them look at what kind of an item it was.
“How interesting”
“I want it if it eases the stiff shoulders”
“Ah. The breasts will no longer show through the clothes if we have that huh. I wonder if we can go without wearing thick clothes during summer?”
“Eeh, I guess there is also such an effect”
“Nonetheless, Tsukuyomi-sama is good at drawing huh. It is very easy to understand”
“Thank you. What do you think? Do you think there is value in trying to make it?”
“Eeh, I would certainly like you to make it”

“Me too”

“Yuzuki-nee-sama is, yeah, I guess you will probably come to need it after another roughly 3 more years? It is necessary for girls in the middle of puberty from 12 years old until about 15 years old, you know”

“Where do you make that?”
“Yes. I want to discuss the manufacturing of brassieres with a tailor that is in the Campanula Kingdom. Olivia-kaa-sama. Could I ask you to get in touch with them?”
“Understood. I’ll contact them right away”

“About the next thing I will be discussing with everybody, I heard that you insert a cotton-wrapped-with-cloth-thing inside your underwear as something to keep in the bleeding during menstruation and absorb the menstrual blood”
“Actually, this cotton-and-cloth, it is easy for it to become unsanitary if you do not change it frequently, and it is not uncommon for it to end up becoming another disease as well if germs end up breeding”
“My! Is that so”
“Yes. I plan to insert this knowledge as well when I turn the menstruation knowledge into a book, but I am thinking about whether or not it is possible to make this cotton-and-cloth into something better. These are called menstrual products; would you have any suggestions regarding this? I am thinking that I shall try to ask the tailor about this as well during the manufacturing of the brassieres though”
“Yeah. It will end up becoming difficult to move if we increase the cloth’s thickness with where the location is huh”
“Depending on the material, it will also be troubling if the texture becomes bad”
“Something easy to change would be nice huh”
“Uhh, it would be nice if it is possible to reduce the smell”
“I think we have to prepare a number as well since we will change it frequently”
“I think the commoners will not be able to afford it if the price is high”
They’re all understandable conditions. I’ve got to memo all of them beforehand. It would be great if we could make something that fulfils even just one more of these conditions.
“Uh. I think the commoners who do farming or manual labour, do not use such things in the first place, you know”
“Eh? What do they do then?”
“No. I think they do nothing……”
“Do nothing? Eh? Does it mean they let it drip?”
“Eeh, I have seen it before……”
“I-, is that so. That is sad huh”
Wha-, what! You’re telling me that there are even people who do nothing.
“Ah! Speaking of which, is it free to receive treatment for menstruation from the chief priest in the shrine?”
“No. It is not free. But the price differs according to their status. I think the only ones who are able to treat their menstruation in the shrine are those who are financially well-off to a certain extent”
“Tons of women show up every day for menstruation treatment nonetheless huh”
“I think the bleeding is scary as one would expect”
“But the treatments are charged huh. Otou-sama. If that is the case, if the menstruation treatment patients end up reducing, will the reduction in the shrine’s income cause any trouble?”
“No, the compensation for the treatment, is not counted as income to begin with. If the patients reduce, the miscellaneous expenses should also reduce, so there is probably no problem”
“I am relieved to hear that”
“Huh? What did the Okaa-samas and Onee-samas do about the menstruation and other treatments up until now?”
“We had Gento-sama or the daughters who became capable of using the Healing ability to treat it”
“Aah, come to think of it, the spawn of the chief priest is so close by your side huh. It also serves as practice after all huh”
“Understood. I think it would be great if we could make something that is cheaper than receiving treatment from the chief priest, and fulfils even just one more of the conditions I received just now”
“Tsukuyomi-sama, we will be counting on you”
Come to think of it, I ever saw an article on the disparity of menstrual products in a medical journal in my previous life as well. That there are women who can’t buy menstrual products that are about 1000 yen every month.
It was written in the article that there were also instances where they used it for 5 to 6 hours when they wanted to change it at the 1 to 2 hours mark. If that’s how it is in modern Japan, in this world, won’t it fit most people.
This is gonna be an extremely difficult problem. I don’t have any confidence that I can make something good……
- 明るい家族計画(Akarui Kazoku Keikaku). I missed it in the previous chapter’s title, but it’s the catchphrase of a condom vending machine in Japan. It’s also the title of a Japanese TV drama, which got its title from the vending machine.
