Sex Education Lesson
In the evening, Oborozuki-oba-san’s consultation finished, and it was time we could talk.
Now that I think about it, it’s a conversation about the chief priest’s medical practice as well after all, and there’s also the possibility that the women in this world don’t have medical knowledge about menstruation and pregnancy in the first place. It’s kinda inappropriate to say ‘while I’m at it’, but isn’t it better to have Okaa-sama and the Onee-samas, who will become chief priests from here on out, listen together as well?
Having thought about that and discussed it with Ojii-san, it turned into us going to the palace and having the conversation there. Just right, Otou-san and Mari-okaa-sama come back from the Nemophila Kingdom today.
I can use Teleportation and return by myself, but since Obaa-san and Oba-san can’t teleport, Ojii-san made two trips. Because he can’t be going back even later, he brought Carmia-obaa-san over as well.
Just right, the ship Otou-san and company rode returned over there.
“Oh Gento, sorry to ask you right after you come back from your trip, but I want every member of the family present during Tsukuyomi’s conversation with Oborozuki. Will that be alright?”
“Chichiue, of course. Mari is fine with it as well, right?”
“Eeh, it is probably some important conversation”
I prepared paper and pen and entered the living room with everybody gathered.
“Everybody, thank you for gathering. I will inquire Oborozuki-oba-san about the work as a chief priest from here on out. I would like everybody to reference it in the future as well, and had everybody participate”
“Tsukuyomi-sama. Please ask me anything”
“Today, I visited the shrine with Ojii-sama and had a look at Oba-sama’s chief priest’s work. The woman you examined at that time said that her time of the month’s impurity was a lot. First, what would ‘the time of the month’ be?”
“Yes. Bleeding occurs from the female genitalia because of a disease that periodically occurs in women. That has been called impurity since a long time ago, and we have to purify that blood”
“Well then, in today’s treatment, you rinsed away the blood from the female genitalia and healed the abdominal pain with Healing. Am I right to say that?”
“Yes. That is exactly it. But how is Tsukuyomi-sama aware even though you were not watching?”
“I was watching from the other side of the wall with see-through vision”
“Wha-! Tsu-, Tsukuyomi! You!”
Again, Okaa-sama is surprised, so much so that she looks like she’s about to faint.
“Okaa-sama. I am a doctor. I said it as well previously”
I said slightly strongly and looked at Okaa-sama with serious eyes. But, by no means am I angry.
“Ah. Th-, that’s right. You were a doctor who specialises in examining women huh. Sorry”
“First thing first, it looks like there is not really something called ‘medical knowledge’ in this world huh. Since you end up being able to treat pain and injuries with Healing, it ends up getting settled even if you do not know anything beyond that. That is what I imagine; what do you think?”
“Yes. We have been taught that the chief priest’s job is simply to use the ability of Healing and heal the pain and injuries; we do not know the cause of most sicknesses and the time of the month’s bleeding. When it comes to the sicknesses we do know, we have only been taught where and how much Healing to pour in, and we do not know why we are able to heal it with that”
“Yeah. When I received Healing training from Otou-sama, I also merely became capable of healing it. Understood. I will teach everybody the knowledge of the process of children being born and the time of the month from here on out”
“Ooh! You are aware of such things huh!”
This is horrible. To think that they’ve been performing treatments on sicknesses while knowing pretty much nothing about medical science.
“First, to start off with, the time of the month is not a sickness. That is why treatment is basically not needed. Even the impurity is not something dirty as well”
“I-, is that so?”
“Yes. You call this menstruation. This is something necessary in order to make a child. Which is why not only is it not dirty, you could say that it is a noble mechanism of the body that only women possess”
“M-, my! Is that so!”
“Eeh. It is something in order to create a new life after all. I will draw an illustration of what it is like inside a woman’s belly and explain it from here on out then”
Uーn. To think that it has turned into me giving a middle school first-year student’s sex education lesson. I draw an illustration of the female genitalia’s interior, filling up the large-ish piece of paper. It’s simple because it’s an illustration I’ve seen numerous times.
“First, you call the egg that you need to be able to have a child the ‘ovum’. That is created in the ovaries you find here, and fundamentally, it matures in about 4 weeks, and only one is produced. During that time, in the uterus over here, the wall called the ‘endometrium’ gradually swells, and it accumulates blood so that the baby’s egg can receive nourishment”
The women’s faces have become deeply-intrigued faces. I’m glad everybody is serious.
“Around the time the preparation of this endometrium is ready comes the matured egg from the ovaries. The ovum gets ovulated, and it gets taken in by this tube called the ‘oviduct’. The ovum waits for the sperm inside this oviduct”
“Here, when a man and a woman have sex and the male releases sperm inside the female genitalia……ah. The Onee-samas who do not know about the things around these parts, please ask the Okaa-samas afterwards. Being a man, I will refrain from saying it”
Okaa-samas’ faces turned bright red altogether. And while drawing the illustration of a sperm,
“The sperm is shaped like this. That is the number of sperm that enter the female genitalia; it has been said to be from 2 hundred million to 3 hundred million. They aim for the oviduct where the ovum is and swim over, scrambling to be the first. And when the semen that arrived first goes into the ovum and succeeds in fertilising it, it becomes a fertilised egg. Is there anything you do not understand up until here?”
“Tsukuyomi-sama. There is one ovum and sperm respectively, right. Why do you get twins?”
“Yeah, Oba-sama. I explained just now that only a single ovum is produced, but there are also rare instances where multiple are ovulated. In the case where those two ova are respectively fertilised by a sperm each, you get twins called ‘monozygotic twins'”
“Also, there are instances where two sperms end up fertilising a single egg simultaneously. In that situation, the fertilised egg splits into two, and you get two children. These are twins called ‘dizygotic twins’. Since the source is a single ovum in this situation, their appearance will also be like two peas in a pod”
“I see; that is how it is huh. Identical twins had been a real mystery”
“Yes. I will continue then. The fertilised egg, moves to the uterus and attaches to the endometrium. You get pregnant for the first time when this completes without any issues. And then the time this ovum can wait for the sperm in the oviduct is about 3 days. Furthermore, it is considered that ability of being able to fertilise can be as short as about 8 hours amidst that”
“If you do not have sexual intercourse during those three days, will you be unable to get pregnant?”
“Yes. Mari-okaa-sama. Exactly. Furthermore, the sperm can also only survive inside the woman for 2 to 3 days. Hence, getting pregnant is not easy in the first place”
“In other words, it’s because we had sex during the time when the ovum wasn’t ovulated that we were unable to quite get pregnant. Would that be it?”
“Yes. Julia-okaa-sama. That is pretty much on the mark. The sperm did not arrive during the time when the ovum had the ability to fertilise. That is what it means”
“And then, in the situation where the ovum didn’t manage to encounter the sperm, or it didn’t go smoothly all the way to the attachment although it got fertilised, the blood stored inside the uterus for the baby’s sake becomes unnecessary. This is the menstruation which flows out of the body called ‘the time of the month'”
“Since it is something that continues every month until the woman who had her ‘menarche’, the first time menstruation occurs, goes into menopause, it is not a sickness. Did I manage to get you to understand?”
“I have a question! Onii-sama. I have not had my menstruation yet. At what age will it start?”
“Yuzuki-nee-sama is nine years old huh. It is about 10 years old for kids who are early. But this differs greatly between people. There are kids whose growth is quick and whose bodies are developed starting even at 9 years old, and there are also kids who do not start yet even at 12 years old. Anyhow, the menstruation starting means the preparation to be able to get pregnant with a child is ready”
“Tsukuyomi-sama. Would that mean that it is not that it is hard for us to bear a child, but we had been mistaken then?”
“Yeah. Mari-okaa-sama. Even in my previous life’s world, such knowledge is taught in school when you are 13 years old, but everybody, rather than saying that ‘they do not remember’, they are not concerned about it, so I think there are not that many people who think about getting pregnant with the correct knowledge”
“But I deduce that it might be likely that, in this world, because the people in the past did not have this knowledge, they had the wrong presumption, and they ended up thinking that you need a lot of wives if you cannot get a child”
“Well then, does it mean that even just one wife is fine?”
“Otou-sama. That is basically so. As for the correct sexual intercourse in order to bear a child, it is to aim for the three days period of ovulation and have sex for three nights continuously. In the case where you have many wives, you have never had sex continuously for three nights with the same wife, no?”
“Mumuu. Tr-, true”
Otou-san’s face stiffened, and the Okaa-samas had convinced expressions.
“In my previous life’s world, though most of the countries are monogamous, it is normal to bear 2 to 3 children, and it is not rare to give birth to 5 to 10 children either”
“Wha-, what. A single wife giving birth to 10 children!”
I mean, they’re gonna be surprised huh……
“Also, I said that ovulation is basically once every approximately 4 weeks, but that is talking about my previous life’s world. Depending on the individual differences, there are also those whose cycle is as short as 25 days or as long as 30 days. And then it is thought that the standard 28 days is as such because of the moon’s influence”
“The moon’s influence? That moon that floats in the sky?”
I draw an illustration and explain how this planet and moon are revolving.
“Yes. Okaa-sama. The moon is going around this planet. That is because it is being pulled by this planet’s gravity. In contrast, the moon is also pulling, trying to escape this planet’s gravity. You call this centrifugal force”
“It is always going around the same place because those strengths are in equilibrium. You cannot see it with your eyes, but that moon is constantly being pulled. The cycle that the moon goes around this planet once and the cycle of menstruation is close because of the influence of that”
“Could you be, talking about some very difficult topic……”
“Yuzuki-nee-sama. It is difficult huh. What I want to say is, the menstruation cycle is 28 days, because the moon going one round around the planet is also approximately 28 days in the previous world, so I want to know how many days it takes for it to go around this planet in this world. Would anybody be aware?”
“……”
Everybody is just looking around at other people’s faces, and nobody is answering.
“Uーn. There is nobody who knows huh. Since this world’s calendar is the same as my previous life’s planet, I am thinking that the possibility that it is identically a 28 days cycle is high. By the way, this planet’s one year has 52 weeks and 1 day, making 365 days”
“In other words, this planet should make one revolution around the sun in a year, 365 days; would there be a teacher who teaches something like this in any of the schools?”
“If it’s that, then the Nemophila Kingdom’s school’s teacher might know”
“Okaa-sama. Is that so. For the conversation around those parts, I shall try inquiring the teacher after going to Nemophila Kingdom then”
“I think that is a good idea”
“Well then, from here on out, I will distribute a cycle chart to the Okaa-samas and the Onee-samas whose menstruation has already started. Hereafter, please draw a circle on the date column of this chart whenever you have your menstruation. I would like to gather this information and research the menstruation cycle of the women of this world”
“Understood. It’s our pleasure to help”
“Otou-sama, Okaa-samas. I have a request; I would like to verify whether the pregnancy mechanism I talked about applies the same even to the humans of this world; may I have your help?”
“Of course, we’ll help”
“Otou-sama, thank you. Well then, I would like to have one person from the Okaa-samas, have sex with Otou-sama according to my instructions hereafter, and try making a child; would there anybody who would like to bear another child”
The Okaa-samas are blushing bright red and peeking at each other’s faces.
“Ah. My Okaa-sama is the youngest, but since she will get pregnant easily because of so and it will not be of reference, I would like to ask of somebody aside from Okaa-sama”
Something like that is a lie though……
“The-, then I will……”
Lucia-okaa-sama, who’s the youngest after Okaa-sama, raised her hand.
“Lucia-okaa-sama. Thank you. Otou-sama is also okay with it, right?”
“U-, umu. I’m okay with it”
“Thank you. Well then, I will have Lucia-okaa-sama record not in the cycle chart, but the base temperature chart here”
“What is this?”
“Yes. From here on out until you get pregnant, I would like Lucia-okaa-sama to measure your body temperature and record it in this chart every morning. If we take this record, not just the menstruation cycle, it will become easy to identify the ovulation date as well”
“Understood. I will record it from tomorrow onwards”
“Lucia-okaa-sama. Please place the thermometer by your pillow side beforehand, and measure your temperature after waking up in the morning, before you leave the bed”
“Why is that so?”
“Because if you do not always measure with the same condition of before you leave the bed, you will be unable to measure the correct temperature”
“Yes. Understood”
“U-, uh! Tsukuyomi-sama, I want to use that base temperature chart as well”
“Melina-okaa-sama as well? Do you want to make a child?”
“E-, eeh. If possible”
“Understood. I will make the chart and bring it over afterwards”
“Yes. Please do”
